In 2016, I moved to Colorado, a state that I had been dreaming of getting back to. I am happy to say that I am here for life, and completely in awe of everything that this beautiful state has to offer.
Soon after we moved here, I started suffering from the worst depression I had ever experienced in my life. Anxiety and depression are not new for me — I have suffered from both of them since I was 23 years old officially, but this was a whole new level of depression. The kind that made me want to give my children to a trustworthy individual and check myself into a facility that would help me crawl out of the dark place I had found myself in.
But I couldn’t do that. So I hiked.
Hiking was the one thing that helped me. It gave me time alone. It allowed me to breath. It allowed me to think clearly. It gave me space. Hiking literally saved my life, and in the process, I found a new hobby that continues to keep me sane.
This year I am working to tackle the 52 Hike Challenge. If you would like to see the adventures I go on, I will do my best to write about all of my hikes, as well as provide details for those interested. I’ll link to them here when I get them up. I am also an Ambassador for the Girls Who Hike Colorado Chapter, and will be sharing my monthly hikes with them here as well!
